It's funny how in life as humas, we tend to clean so much. We clean everything from our bodies, dishes, clothes, the bathroom/kitchen and even to the outside world of cleaning our vehicles and favorite toys, but somehow the exterior of our home gets neglected. When this happens, mold, mildew, moss and many other dirty things begin to grow on decks, patios, trim and siding. Luckily vinyl can hold up decent to this filth, but if you have paint, it tends to break down at a faster rate. Decks with this type of film become dangerous when wet, as they become very slippery. All I can say, is when you're cleaning everything else, take a look at the exterior of your house. Its amazing how a good washing can bring it back to life. My suggestion is either once a year or every other year. It could save you in the long run.
